In 1998, a local baseball association in Conyers, Ga., started a baseball league that provides the opportunity for disabled children to play organized baseball regardless of their level of disability. That was the beginning of The Miracle League. Now, more than 10 years later, The Miracle League is a national organization dedicated to promoting the development of baseball fields for disabled youth throughout the country. We are proud that New Orleans is now in that number.

Established as a partnership between Audubon Institute and Children’s Hospital, The Miracle League of Greater New Orleans' facility is soon to be a reality on the "Butterfly" behind Audubon Zoo. Completion of the complex, made possible through private and corporate funding, is anticipated just in time for the fall baseball season. It includes a specially constructed rubberized field along with appropriate support facilities designed specifically for use by disabled children. The league will annually have a spring and fall season that is open to any disabled child between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
